Iluka Residence (1)
ILUKA ROAD, PALM BEACH
Architect: WALTER BARDA
The emphasis in this beach house that completely envelopes an old waterfront cottage is the use of timber, with internal ‘v’ jointed panelling on the walls aligned with the timber clad ceilings, complemented by the use of sandstone. A maritime theme has been adopted to suit the surroundings and a specially designed and constructed boat has been used to form the external wall of the bathroom.
Feature 1
This amazing beach house was built in two stages, a complete alteration of the original house to create a beach house full of character and the addition of a garage and guest accommodation.
With large openings across two waterside levels this home warmly invites the sunset each day. The recycled timber mantelpiece on the sandstone fireplace, combined with the timber panelling on the floors, walls and ceiling create a timeless feel to this new renovation.
Feature 2
The guest accommodation has an incredibly unique feature of an old-fashioned timber style dinghy enclosing the guest bathroom. This “boat bathroom” is visible from the street and has become a true icon of Palm Beach.
Feature 3
The design, detail and extensive use of sandstone and timber ensures every aspect of this house looks like a classic beach house.
